Festivals to Attend this Summer on Nantucket

A gold sign reads "Stand Up Comedy"

Spending any amount of time on Nantucket during the summer can make for the trip of a lifetime. There’s so much to do and so much to see. You can eat at the seemingly infinite quality establishments, go to the beach, check out the sights, or really just do whatever you want.

Depending on when exactly you’re visiting, there’s also a fair number of festivals you might want to attend during the summer of 2023. Here are a few of them:

Book Festival

The Nantucket Book Festival will be held from June 15-18 this year. It’s a must-attend for any book worms who happen to be on the island at the time. The festival features a series of literary experts giving lectures, workshops, an author dinner, and other events held at different venues on the island.

Film Festival

For the cinephiles travelling to Nantucket this summer, there’s also the Nantucket Film Festival, which has been held consistently for more than a quarter-century now. From June 21-26, dozens of films of all different genres will be shown at a handful of venues on the island. There will also be a speaker’s series, morning coffee events, and awards given out on the final day. Films are shown essentially the entire day and there are a variety of ticket packages available.

Garden Festival

If you’re a green thumb who plans to visit the island this summer, you might want to plan your trip around the 14th Annual Nantucket Garden Festival from July 11-13. The festival, which features a variety of tours and workshops, highlights the beauty of the garden ecosystems of the island and promotes sustainability, conservation, and gardening ethics with an eye on the long-term health of the island.

Comedy Festival

If you’re looking for some levity and a few laughs on your trip, check out the Nantucket Comedy Festival from July 13-15. The slate of standup acts will features a showdown between Boston and New York City comedians. There will also be lessons for young, aspiring comedians and a party with comedians for festival patrons.
